Where to stay?

by Jill
(Indiana)

We are three married couples in our late twenties planning on coming to the outerbnks next spring/early summer. We don't want the beach to be crowded or it be be too noisy but we are also up for some night life. We are looking for somewhere to stay that each couple could have their own condo or cabin so we can have our time away from each other but still be close enough to meet up. Any suggestions?

Jill,

I am posting this so in the hopes that a few of the rental companies will jump in. I know there are condos in Duck, for instance, that might work for you. Also, have you considered staying at a Outer Banks hotel or B&B as a possibility?

As far as nighlife, I would stay in or north of Nags Head. The time of year you are talking about going (late Spring/early Summer - May/early June) will not be crowded.

The rental companies (in the northern end of the island) have searcheds on condos. Some you might want to consider are Sun Realty (www.sunrealty.com), Twiddy (www.twiddy.com),and Kitty Dunes (www.kittydunes.com). Paramount Destinations (www.paramountdestinations.com) and Seaside Vacations (www.outerbanksvacations.com) are two more to consider.

I do think, however, that even if you all rented one house, that most houses are large enough that you will not be on top of each other.

Kind regards,

Dan

Great question.

You really can't go wrong with any location; they are all beautiful and have their own charm. With that said, it really depends on what you're looking for.

The northern most beach, Corolla, is a pretty secluded with great local shops and restaurants, and some fun sight seeing...wild horses, lighthouse, etc. The beaches can be slightly less crowded here.

Duck is a quaint little village with a great town-center with fun local shops and restaurants.

Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills, and Nags Head are sort of the "center" of the Outer Banks, and as such, they tend to be the busiest areas...but still plenty of room to move around and find quiet space. This area has the most options for restaurants, bars, shopping, and activities.

The southern beaches (Rodanthe, Salvo, Waves, Hatteras, Ocracoke) are the more secluded beaches. There are less shops and restaurants here, but the peace and quiet are amazing.

Based your description, I would recommend the towns of Duck, Southern Shores, Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills or Nags Head.

You also mentioned getting separate condos, and this is definitely feasible, but I would also suggest that you look into one house as well. One house would probably save all three couples a little money, and you would still have plenty of room to spread out, but at the same time you would have the convenience of meeting in the living room whenever you wanted to rather than having to leave the condo. Either option would work great, and there are a lot of condos and houses for you to choose from.

We would love to help you find the home (or condo) that meets all of your vacation needs. You can search our homes at: www.OuterBanksVacations.com

Have fun!

My Suggestion
by: Laura

Hi Jill,

I don't think you can go wrong anywhere on the Banks, but I think South Nags Head would be the best area to get everything you are looking for. I am not sure if there are any condos there but there are a great number of oceanfront/side homes on South Oregon Inlet Rd that would probably work for you all. The beaches are less crowded than Nags Head and it is a short ride to the nightlife. Good luck with your search!
