My fiancé and I took a trip to the Outer Banks last summer to visit a friend’s summer home and we actually went out to dinner our first night there.
After the recommendation of our friend and a few people we met on our way in, we chose the Tale of the Whale Restaurant in Nags Head and we were not disappointed.
We called ahead to be sure we had a table and the woman on the phone was very kind, taking our name even though she insisted that we would be fine since we were coming in a bit late for dinner (around 8:30). When we got there, the place was busy, but not overly packed, so there was not much of a wait (we had to wait for them to clear off our booth because we requested to have a booth with a water view).
Once seated, I ordered up a key lime martini, which was quite possibly to die for, and my fiancé had a local beer, which he also loved. For dinner, we ordered crab cakes and a large amount of snow crab legs (I think they were 2lbs of the legs) so we could split two of our favorite items. The crab legs were great, of course, and the crab cakes were phenomenal. The crab meat was in lumps and just melted in your mouth. Our waiter was great and constantly had our drinks filled (and only charged us for 5 drinks each instead of 6!).
The people, atmosphere, price and views from this place made us go back for drinks before we headed back up the East Coast.
