These pages are being built after a request from several readers came to me about which small business online marketing tools truly make sense for their business. If you have read the previous pages, you know that some tools are specific for businesses that sell hard goods. For instance, shopping cart capabilities and related tools would fall into this category. Others, that would serve to augment your online business advertising and small business internet marketing program, would be appropriate for any type business. For purposes of the chart, the businesses of the Outer Banks have been categorized into the following. Please note that this is not meant as an exhaustive list but to be directional.
Real Estate: These companies sell a service to the consumer specifically to the Outer Banks related to directly to the tourism industry (i.e. Realtors, vacation rental companies, rental homes, hotels, bed & breakfast).
OBX Stores: These are stores that sell a piece of the Outer Banks. The goods and products would appeal to the consumer whether they are on the Outer Banks or not(i.e. Antique stores, book stores, boutiques and clothing stores, gift and specialty shops, jewelers, art stores (and individual works by artists) and surf shops that sell the Outer Banks brand.
Support Services: These are businesses that support the tourism business by selling goods and services to the owners of the vacation properties (i.e. furniture stores, pool and hot tub companies, home maintenance and repair services, carpeting stores, lawn maintenance companies)
OBX Services: These are business selling the Outer Banks brand, but services can only be experienced while on the Outer Banks (i.e. restaurants, charter fishing boats, golf courses, camp sites, theaters, sightseeing locations (except for memorabilia, which would fall into the “OBX Stores” section).
