Route to see the Outer Banks

O.K. Right now, we plan to stay at Shutters motel. We are coming from Raleigh NC and want to travel the entire Outer Banks. Any suggestions on route we should take? Leaving Raleigh around 10:00 am March 9 and returning on the 11th.

RT 12

Hi T,

The only route you can take is Route 12. Route 12 starts up in Corolla and will take you all the way down to Hatteras and the ferry to Ocracoke. There is a stretch between Kitty Hawk and Nags Head that both RT 12 and RT 158 run parallel, but RT 12 is ocean front. If you want to see Manteo (and since you are coming from Raleigh, you will be familiar with this), RT 64 off of RT 158 will take you there. As I said, it is darn near impossible to get lost on the Outer Banks as RT 12 is the one north-south constant.
