The Pointe Golf Club: The Choice of Locals as Most Playable
The Pointe Golf Club is located in Powell’s Point off Route 158 on the Currituck Mainland.
It is one of the six championship Outer Banks golf courses. As its tag line implies, "The Outer Banks Locals' Choice", it has been hailed by many golfers as the finest putting surface they have ever played on. As a matter of fact, the Southeastern director of the USGA has labeled it "as amongst the finest putting surfaces in the eastern U.S."
This 5900 yard Par 71 course opened in 1995 and was designed by Russell Breeden. Doug Kinser is the PGA Professional, and Jay Brown is the superintendent. It is the first course in the area to use A1 bent-grass greens, attributing to the rave reviews. However, be advised that you may want to use the practice greens beforehand to prepare yourself for these slick greens. The signature hole is the 457 yard par 4 6th hole, which has a carry over wetlands, a blind shot to the fairway, with water, bunkers and slopes to the right.
There are four sets of tees (see chart below for yardage), with the tee recommendations as follows:
Men Gold 0-6 handicap
Men Blue 7-18 handicap
Men White 19-30 handicap
Men Red 31+ handicap
Women White 0-9 handicap
Women Red 10+ handicap
