How it Becomes a Second Home

The OuterBanks of NC is a place of relaxation, great family memories and even a place of inspiration ... have you figured out the family connection yet?

Jessica D., a soon to be published author who drew her inspiration from the Outer Banks (per her sister-in-law), found the time to share her OuterBanks of NC family vacation traditions

The Outer Banks has become a second home for me and my family. For the past three years, nine of us have driven down from Pennsylvania to spend a week in a wonderful beach house right on Swan Beach.

We all enjoy the beach and delight in frolicking in the sand. Before our first trip to the Outer Banks, my children had never seen the ocean. When they saw it for the first time, it was magic. They fell in love with it!

Beachcombing is terrific fun, as is surf fishing. The kids enjoy boogie boarding, so we make it a point each year to spend a day down at the shore.

Tanger Outlets offers wonderful bargains and outstanding customer service so we spend a full day on each trip shopping.

Our trip usually falls on our wedding anniversary, so my husband and I make it a point to go out to dinner, just the two of us. There are so many beautiful places to dine, and the Outer Banks is a stunning setting for a romantic evening out.

We usually take one day to tour the area together. We've had so much fun exploring the lighthouses that are so rich in local history.

Even with all of the amazing sights and attractions to behold in the Outer Banks, the best part of our annual trip is the time we get to spend with each other. In today's world, everyone is so busy, and we never get to spend a lot of time together. Our trip allows us to connect and just enjoy each other without all of the stresses of daily life. We can truly relax and leave the world behind.

Since we found our little jewel by the sea, we consider the Outer Banks a home away from home. The Outer Banks has been a wonderful source of fun, peace, and inspiration for all of us. In fact, I was so inspired by my experiences in Corolla that I wrote a fictional book based in the Outer Banks. That book will be published soon, and I owe it all to the lovely treat that is North Carolina.
