Help with Rental

I am planning to go on a vacation to the Outer Banks in July for 3 days.(this is our first vacation to the Outer Banks) I am unable get any vacation rental on the Outer Banks because they are either booked or will only rent for a week and not for a few days. Do you know if we could stay closer to the Outer Banks(up to an hour's drive will do) and then drive to the Outer Banks. Do you think it will work. How are the rents and what areas would that be. We are a group of 4 adults and 2 kids.

How about a different approach ...

Ria,

That is a long way to go for 3 days and the problem you have is that it is the peak season so no owner on their right mind is going to give up a week for just three days. Typically, one week in July could be almost a month's mortgage.

So here is what I would do. For only three days, why not book an Outer Banks hotel or an OBX Bed & Breakfast. This way you have something for sure for the three days. Then, a day or two before coming down, call those same rental companies and see if they have any houses available. If they do, they will rent them for three days because three days are better than none. If you do this, I would only book a hotel room so you know for sure you have something and then try an dswitch to a rental house.

If you have a B&B, I would go ahead with the B&B, because you get the best of both: a beach house, but with breakfast already prepared.

Also, hotels and bed and breakfasts are another great option. Since you have never been to the Outer Banks before you are in for a treat, what a wonderful place.
