My family has been vacationing in the Outerbanks every year since long before I was even born! There are few things that I enjoy more than the gentle transformation that occurs mentally when I leave behind the Interstates and pull my truck onto Highway 12, recalling the countless memories I've had growing up in the Outerbanks! While my early years were characterized by trips in the prime season (July 4th weekend), my family has recently come to appreciate the more peaceful autumn months (September, October & November).
My older sister, who now resides in Alaska, decided that the only place that felt right for her to get married would be the Outerbanks. So, in November of 2009 close family and friends rented homes in the Frisco / Hatteras area and enjoyed a beautiful beach wedding. We had some worries about getting onto the island following the damage from nor'easter Ida, but everything worked out nicely and we all enjoyed a great week.
Clouds characterized the weather until the end of the week, when we were treated to one really beautiful sunset and sunrise respectively. This photograph is one of many that I managed to get of some shorebirds on the nearshore between Frisco and Hatteras during the 'golden light' hours. For anyone interested, feel free to check out some more of my shots of the outerbanks areas at:
Despite being an out-of-towner, I can't help but feel like the Outerbanks is a second home and I will undoubtedly return again. I appreciate the great site Dan!
Thanks for adding this terrific picture to Outer Banks Revealed. The colors brings the Outer Banks home on even the coldest day of winter. I checked out the first link, and I can't tell you which is my favorite, because they are all that good. Thanks for sharing your talents with us.
